A quick Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you all. That’s right, this isn’t going to be a porn post, so if you don’t want to read me babbling you can just skip to the next post. Everyone is part Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, but honestly you can’t appreciate the holiday unless you’re part Irish.
I happen to be half Irish and I can hear the calling of Guinness beer with a nice cornbeef sandwich weeks before the holiday hits. St. Patrick’s day is one of the fun holidays that doesn’t have all the extra baggage that goes along with it. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas, but it’s become too commercial for me. I think this is the reason why I’ve become so enamoured with the smaller holidays.
You celebrate being Irish, that’s what it’s all about, and we Irish don’t mind adopting everyone else on this day. Sure there’s the whole Patrick getting the snakes out type story behind it all, but the modern day celebration is just one big party.
Right now the clan is starting to assemble at my house, I drag out my Irish mother’s maiden name, polish it off for the evening, I get out my Tin Whistle to play some jigs before I drink too much beer, and I spend the evening with the people I love…until they get too drunk and then I remember why I exclaimed last year, “That drunk will never step foot in my house again!” lol.
